CHARLES DONAHUE, CEO
Comprehensive Financial Advisor / Team Leader

SI founder Charles (“Charlie”) Donahue brings more than 10 years of financial advisement experience and an engineer’s mindset to the Synchronized Investments team.

Before founding Synchronized Investments in 2009, Charlie enjoyed a successful career as a licensed investment advisor with a large investment firm in the San Francisco Bay area. His experiences opened his eyes to the serious problems inherent in both of today’s prevailing financial advisement models (commission- and asset-management- based). He recognized the need for a new, comprehensive model which  would empower clients to take control of their financial destinies.

Over the course of several years, he devised the Synchronized Investments model, which: (1) oversees all aspects of each client’s financial wellness; (2) protects clients from all conceivable advisor conflicts of interest; (3)  provides clients with a team of experts, each of whom specializes in just one or two professional disciplines; and (4) subjects each expert’s recommendations to a rigorous peer-review process, ensuring that each client’s wealth is managed holistically.

Charlie has a passion for reaching out to those who need a helping hand and has volunteered for  Habitat for Humanity, Good Samaritan Outreach, Dan Harris-Jim Banks World Cup Soccer Camps, and California Thunder Hockey Club. He is currently forming a non-profit organization, He Shoots He Scores, aimed at developing the character, work ethic, and overall abilities of at-risk boys and girls by providing access to hockey for low-income children and their families.

He enjoys hockey, soccer, snow skiing, spending time with friends and family, and adventure travel.

Charlie is an alumnus of Marquette University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering and played collegiate sports. He believes that his engineering training nurtured the systems thinking which allowed him to create the SI model – and that his experiences playing ice hockey and soccer developed the skills he uses today to coach his team to victory with (and for) every client.

KEVIN MIKAMI, BS
Administrative Director of Client Relations

Kevin Mikami joined Synchronized Investments in 2012. Kevin brings SI breadth and wealth of experience in the financial services rare in our industry. Before joining our team, Kevin worked in asset management as a member of the Institutional Sales & Marketing team of Parnassus Investments, a socially-responsible mutual fund with over $6 billion in actively-managed assets. Prior to that, he was a member of the Global Wealth Management Group at Merrill Lynch, after beginning his career in an independent, “boutique” investment advisory firm.

Kevin holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Corporate Finance from San Francisco State University. While a student there, he served as Director of Finance for Associate Students, Incorporated (the university’s student government organization). During his free time, Kevin regularly volunteers at the Acute Rehabilitation Center at California Pacific Medical Center.

BURT WILLIAMSON, MBA, CFP®
Financial Strategy Expert

Burt Williamson, MBA, CFP® has helped thousands of families, baby boomers and business owners plan effectively for their life goals, invest wisely, protect their families and lifestyles, give prudently, and minimize their tax liabilities.  He has earned an economics degree from Columbia University and an MBA from the University of Connecticut, and he is a Certified Financial Planner™.

The extensive training Burt received over the years, combined with his years of diverse planning experience, empowered him to develop a system that makes it easier for people to crystallize their goals and take effective action toward achieving them.  Burt creates customized financial strategies for SI clients (and many others) across the nation.

ROBERT BURTON, LLB, CLU, ChFC, AEP
Estate Planning and Insurance Expert

Robert E. Burton LLB CLU ChFC AEP, a graduate of Yale University and Columbia Law School, has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the life insurance industry.  For more than 20 years he served as New York Life’s West Coast Senior Advanced Planning Consultant. He then spent four years as VP of Management Compensation Group-SF, specializing in non-qualified benefit plans for large corporations.  After becoming an NYL agent and affiliating with The Silver Group, he served as Director of Advanced Planning for Provada Insurance Services (after Provada merged with the Silver Group) until 2012. At that time, Provada was taken over by another firm, and Bob decided to become an independent advisor.

An award-winning author and prolific speaker, Bob has lectured before estate-planning councils and other industry groups, at several estate planning symposiums (including the Practicing Law Institute’s 37th Annual Estate Planning Institute in San Francisco) at MDRT, for the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting, to both CPA and FPA organizations, and at several CLU Institutes and Symposiums.  A member of three San Francisco Bay-area estate-planning councils, he is a former President of the San Francisco Estate-Planning Council and a past Board member of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils – which awarded him the Accredited Estate Planner designation.  He is also very active in community affairs and is a former two-term Mayor of Mill Valley. He continues to serve on three appointed public boards in Marin County.

RICHARD DEVANEY, CPA
Tax-Management Expert

Richard DeVaney is an Enrolled Agent, licensed by the IRS. His company, Golden State Tax Services, Inc. has been located in Campbell since 1992. He has accumulated almost 25 years of accounting and tax management experience since moving to the Santa Clara Valley over forty years ago. Richard’s specialty is individual and small business tax management. He holds a BS in Accounting from Cal Poly and an MBA from Santa Clara University, and is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents, California Society of Enrolled Agents. He serves as a director and committee chairman for the Mission Society of Enrolled Agents chapter. Richard is also an active member in the Campbell Chamber of Commerce.
